Hand Injury Value in South Carolina Workers’ Compensation
A hand injury can be devastating, especially if your work depends on using tools, lifting, typing, or handling machinery. In South Carolina, the workers’ compensation law assigns a set number of weeks for each body part. The loss or total impairment of a hand is valued at 185 weeks of benefits.
That means if your hand is permanently impaired, you may be entitled to nearly three and a half years’ worth of benefits, paid at two-thirds of your average weekly wage (with statewide caps). For partial loss, the number of weeks is reduced by the percentage of impairment. For example, a 20% loss of use of a hand equals 37 weeks of benefits.
The challenge is that insurance companies often dispute how severe your impairment really is. They may argue that your hand is “functional enough” to cut your payout. Having a lawyer on your side helps ensure the medical evidence is presented correctly and that you aren’t short-changed.
Smith & Beckey has helped countless injured workers secure fair settlements for hand injuries—from construction accidents to factory injuries to repetitive-use claims. If your hand injury is keeping you from earning a living, our team is ready to fight for the full value of your claim.
