Hearing Loss in South Carolina Workers’ Compensation

Workplace noise is one of the most common causes of long-term hearing damage. In South Carolina, the workers’ comp schedule provides:

  • Total loss of hearing in both ears: 165 weeks of benefits
  • Total loss in one ear: 80 weeks of benefits

For partial hearing loss, the number of weeks is adjusted proportionally.

Unlike a broken bone, hearing loss often develops over time, which makes proving your claim more challenging. Employers and insurers may argue that the damage is due to age or non-work-related causes. A lawyer can help connect your hearing loss directly to your workplace exposure.

Smith & Beckey understands how critical hearing is for safety, communication, and quality of life. Our team will work with medical experts to prove your case and pursue the benefits you deserve.

Important Note on How Benefits Are Calculated

Each “week” of benefits is worth two-thirds of your average weekly wage, capped at a statewide maximum. That means the total dollar value of your claim depends both on your impairment rating and your wage level.

Insurance companies are motivated to minimize both. Having legal representation is the best way to ensure your settlement reflects your true loss.
